Shahid Kapoor defends Shraddha Kapoor in front of Media

Shraddha Kapoor has hit the jackpot again with ‘Ek Villain’. While her performance has received mixed reviews with some critics calling it irritating, she needs not to worry because the film is all set to join the 100 crores club. But not everything is going smoothly in her life. She recently found herself at the center of some controversy with the media photographers.
Apparently, Shraddha has been acting a bit too much starry recently as she refused to pose for photographers at several events.  Naturally the lens men were not happy with the snubbing and they in turn refused to acknowledge her at the ‘Ek Villain’ success party.  Although sources close to the actor claim that the issue has been sorted between her and the photographers, the topic came up during the trailer launch of her next film, Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Haider’.
During the interaction with media, Shraddha was asked about her thoughts on the boycott ‘daur’ (phase). Shraddha said, "I was waiting for this question to come up." But before she could say anything more to defend herself, her co-star from the film Shahid Kapoor jumped to her rescue. Shahid intervened and said, “Daur nahi hai (it's not a phase). It has been only about the last three-four days. Don't stretch it that much. When you say ‘daur', it sounds as if something has been going on for the past 10 years." Director Vishal Bharadwaj too joined in the defensive act. Bharadwaj smartly made a reference to a hit Mohammed Rafi song from the 1963 film ‘Taj Mahal’. He slightly altered the lyrics and said, “As they say, ‘jo baat mujhme hai meri tasveer mein nahi’. Let’s go ahead now.” At this point Shraddha broke into giggles and showed two thumbs up to signal the end of that particular topic.
Rumors regarding co-stars are nothing new in Bollywood and looks like Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor is the latest addition to that list. Although a source close to Shahid claims that the handsome actor is really fond of the pretty Shraddha. However, Shraddha may not to be interested in getting too close to Shahid because she is known to date her ‘Aashiqui 2’ co-star Aditya Roy Kapur. She recently visited the USA on a vacation with Aditya. However there is no denying the great chemistry between Shraddha and Shahid that is evident from the trailer and first look photos of ‘Haider.’ They even share a passionate kiss in one of the photos.

Box office clash: Shahid Kapoor’s 'Haider' versus Hrithik Roshan’s 'Bang Bang'

Box office clash: Shahid Kapoor’s 'Haider' versus Hrithik Roshan’s 'Bang Bang'

Shahid Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan are heading for an unlikely clash at the box office this October. Shahid’s Haider and Hrithik’s Bang Bang are slated to release on the same day, that’s on national holiday of Gandhi Jayanti.

As per trade sources, Haider isn’t to be blamed for this clash. The release date of the film starring Shahid Kapoor in the titular role was finalized a year back, and it is the Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif-starrer Bang Bang that has been getting delayed. Now, its makers have decided to release the movie on October 2.

“I don't think trade will get affected, because people who will watch Haider will not be able to stand Bang Bang and vice versa…” a trade analyst is quoted as saying.

Though generically different, the two films boast of high-voltage drama and action. Even though Haider is more dramatic and intense and Bang Bang more sleek and action-based -- both films have good production values. The two movies are backed by power houses. UTV (Haider) and Fox Star Studios (Bang Bang) will make sure that their film gets enough number of screens to release on. So it is to be seen which one wins big at the BO.

What’s going to work for Haider? The smashing combo of Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor after Kaminey. An ensemble star cast including the likes of Irrfan Khan, Tabu and Shraddha Kapoor. The movie has Kashmir as its setting, and an intriguing plotline.

What will work in Bang Bang favour? The hot pairing of Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif. The exotic locations and high-octane action sequences as the movie is the official remake of the Hollywood flick Knight And Day.

While the audiences have loved the first trailer of Haider, the promo of Bang Bang is yet to come out.

Shahid Kapoor Steals The Show

Shahid Kapoor Steals The Show

Shahid Kapoor, shocked everyone with his look in Haider, and now once the first look of his film is officially out everyone is going ga ga about Shahid Kapoor.
Shahid Kapoor has teamed up again with Vishal Bhardwaj for Haider, an adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s tragedy Hamlet, says he felt insecure and uncertain as an actor while playing the character.
“Vishal Sir gave me so far the best role of my life in Kaminey. It is amazing to work with him again. It is a rare opportunity and very few actors get to play Hamlet. This is one role that makes you feel very inadequate as an actor. When I was on the sets, I used to run to everybody for assurance. I would ask Vishal Sir and the cast members, Do you think I got it right,” stated Shahid Kapoor at the trailer launch of the film.
Shahid Kapoor, who was last seen in R…Rajkumar, stated that for once it was exciting to play a character which was not black and white.
“Very few filmmakers give you the opportunity to actors which demands from them more than what they are used to giving. Vishal has been that filmmaker. When he calls for you a project, you know that it is not something regular or run-of-the-mill,” Shahid said.
Shahid Kapoor teams up with Shraddha Kapoor for the first time and both look very good together. For the trailer launch Shahid looked dapper in a white t-shirt paired up with black denim and black blazer, Shraddha looked attractive in a Diane Von Furstenberg dress with heels from Zara. Tabu too was present at the event looking pretty in a black kurta paired up with black salwar.
Haider completes Vishal Bhardwaj’s trilogy of Shakespearean tragedies after he successfully adapted Macbeth in Maqbool and Othello in Omkara.
Vishal Bhardwaj, on his part said he never thought that the long gestating project would see the light of the day. The director said he chose Kashmir as a backdrop because the family drama of Hamlet fit into the situation.
“Once I imagined this film as an espionage thriller but Gulzarji scolded me, saying ‘What are you doing to Hamlet?’. During that time I was reading Basharat Peer’s Curfewed Night and it made a huge impact on me. Hamlet is a family drama and the backdrop of Kashmir suited my story,” Vishal Bhardwaj said.
Haider also stars Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Irrfan Khan. The film is being produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and Siddharth Roy Kapur.
“Kay Kay Menon is one actor that I wanted to work for the longest time. I am happy that I am finally working with him,” Vishal Bhardwaj said.
Haider is slated to release October 02, 2014

I felt not good enough actor while filming 'Haider': Shahid Kapoor

I felt not good enough actor while filming 'Haider': Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor was faced with his inadequacy as an actor while filming Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider.

Actor Shahid Kapoor, who plays a dark character in his forthcoming film "Haider", says although he prepared for the role the nagging thought that he's not "good enough" for it kept haunting him throughout the shoot.

An adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy "Hamlet", the film, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is set against the unrest in the Kashmir valley and revolves around a guy called Haider who wants to avenge his father's death.

"This is one role that makes you feel very inadequate as an actor," Shahid said here Tuesday at the trailer launch of the movie.
Apart from other things, the 33-year-old actor even shaved off his head to get under the skin of the character.

"Every day when I was on the sets, the inherent feeling I had was that I don't think I am good enough to play this role. That's what I felt everyday and I used to keep running to everybody for assurance right from Vishal sir to Pankaj, our cameraman, because this is that kind of role.

"So one prepared to whatever degree that one can, but it did make me feel inadequate as an actor," he added.

But he thanks his co-stars and the director for their support.

"It was very difficult to prepare for the role, but I had support from some fantastic actors and that really helped me a lot," said Shahid Kapoor, whose last releases include "Mausam" and "R...Rajkumar".

"Being in the same frame with actors like Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Irrfan sir was a huge learning experience for me. It gave me a lot of confidence about the product that we are trying to create," he added.

Also featuring Shraddha Kapoor, "Haider" is slated to release Oct 2.

Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj do Haider for free!

Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj do Haider for free!

We have seen quite a few B-town stars right from Kareena Kapoor to Priyanka Chopra to Salman Khan not charging any money for doing a song or a cameo in a film, but Shahid Kapoor has indeed gone extra mile. Many of you might know this but Sasha has forgone the remuneration of his upcoming film, Haider opposite Shraddha Kapoor. Yes, you read that right! Shahid, who plays the main lead in this filmi adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet has not charged a single penny for the film so that neither the budget is overstretched nor the quality compromised. That’s not all. Even Vishal Bhardwaj, who is the director of Haider has also not charged anything for making this film.
“Vishal sir and I decided that we want to be as true to the film as we could. And we didn’t want the pressure of either his remuneration or mine to curb us in going out and making a film that we needed to make. So therefore we wanted to take that pressure off and be able to spend all the money on the film. And when I look back, I feel that it was the most right decision,” said Shahid at the trailer launch of the film held yesterday (June 8).
Vishal, while talking to a leading tabloid said, “When we started planning the film, both Shahid and I agreed that it had to make money from day one. But, we also knew that Haider was a big film with a huge budget, an ensemble cast and lavish action pieces. Filming in Kashmir added to the costs. The only way we could succeed in our endeavour was not to burden the film with our remunerations. We kept the secret between us for a long time but it’s finally out.”
Well, so when Vishal and Shahid say that Haider is special for them, they really mean it.

Says the 33-year-old actor, “It's very difficult to prepare for a role (like HAIDER). I had the support of fantastic actors and that really helped me a lot. But this is one role which made me feel very inadequate as an actor. Every day on set, I had this inherent feeling that I wasn't good enough to play this role. I used to keep running to everybody for reassurance whether it was Vishal sir or Pankaj sir who is the cameraman of my film or my co-actors. I used to keep asking them whether I had got it right. So it was that kind of role.”  Ask him whether it was it was difficult for him to switch on and off from the character and he says, “I don’t think you can switch on and switch off when you play a role like this. I think you need to stay in that zone. We were very lucky that we shot the entire film in Kashmir because it has a unique energy. It’s very difficult to describe it. If it wasn’t for Kashmir, we wouldn’t know what we were doing. Being there in that atmosphere and with those people really helped in flowing into the kind of world one is trying to create.”
HAIDER is an official adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’. Also starring Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and others, the film is scheduled to release on 2nd October.

To Be or Not To Be: Haider's Shahid Grapples With his Inner Demons

To Be or Not To Be: Haider's Shahid Grapples With his Inner Demons
Shahid in a still from the movie Haider
After entertaining the masses with R...Rajkumar, an out-and-out Bollywood masala film, actor Shahid Kapoor has taken a 180 degree turn to portray an intense character named Haider in Vishal Bhardwaj's film adaption of Shakespeare's classic Hamlet.

The first look of the film, set in the backdrop of turbulent Kashmir, reveals the dark side of Haider, a cold-blooded, at times eccentric, man on a self-destructive mission to avenge his father's death. On his deathbed, Haider's father asked him to kill his lecherous uncle, who cast a spell on his mother.

Shraddha Kapoor plays Haider's love interest Arshia (Ophelia from Hamlet) and the trailer shows some very intense lovemaking scenes between the two. He later contemplates death and suicide with her, taking us back to the famous line from Hamlet 'To be or not to be...'

Tabu plays Shahid's mother, with whom he seems to share a complex relationship. The film boasts of a heavyweight cast including Irrfan Khan and Kay Kay Menon.

Vishal will be completing his Shakespeare trilogy with Haider, after Maqbool (Macbeth) and Omkara (Othello).

Shahid and Vishal last paired up together in 2009 for the critically acclaimed film Kaminey.

Shahid Kapoor: Hamlet's Role Made Me Feel Inadequate as an Actor

Shahid Kapoor: Hamlet's Role Made Me Feel Inadequate as an Actor
Shahid Kapoor in a still from Haider.
Shahid Kapoor, who has teamed up with Vishal Bhardwaj for Haider, an adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, says that he felt insecure and uncertain as an actor while playing the character.

Haider completes Vishal's trilogy of Shakespearean tragedies after he successfully adapted Macbeth in Maqbool and Othello in Omkara.
Shahid and Vishal worked together in the 2009 film Kaminey.

"Vishal sir gave me the best role of my life in Kaminey. It is amazing to work with him again. It is a rare opportunity and very few actors get to play Hamlet.

"This is one role that makes you feel very inadequate as an actor. When I was on the sets, I used to run to everybody for assurance. I would ask Vishal sir and the cast members 'Do you think I got it right'," Shahid told reporters during the trailer launch of the film, which releases on October 2.

Vishal said he never thought that the project, which had a long gestation period, would see the light of the day.

The director said that he chose Kashmir as a backdrop because the family drama of Hamlet fit into the situation.

"Once I imagined this film as an espionage thriller but Gulzarji scolded me, saying 'What are you doing to Hamlet?'.

During that time I was reading Basharat Peer's Curfewed Night and it made a huge impact on me. Hamlet is a family drama and the backdrop of Kashmir suited my story," Vishal said.

The director, who has made beautiful children's films like Makdee and The Blue Umbrella, is equally famous for his gangster dramas but Vishal does not believe that he is attracted to dark stories.

"I am attracted to human conflict. Negative and positive are within us. These conflicts make stories. Hamlet was written four hundred years ago and its beauty is that you can adapt the story in any situation or culture because it is about basic human conflict," he said.

Shahid, who was last seen in R... Rajkumar, says for once it was exciting to play a character which was not black and white.

"Very few filmmakers give you the opportunity to act which demands from them more than what they are used to giving. Vishal has been that filmmaker. When he calls for you a project, you know that it is not something regular or run-of-the-mill," Shahid said.

The film also stars Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Irrfan in pivotal roles and has been produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Tabu and Irrfan have teamed up for the second time with Vishal Bhardwaj after Maqbool.

"Kay Kay Menon is one actor that I wanted to work for since a long time. I am happy that I am finally working with him," Vishal said.
