Shahid Kapoor and Ayushmann get together for Udta Punjab!

Shahid Kapoor’s next big project is Udta Punjab and we’ve already been hearing lots of things about this very special movie to be directed by Abhishek Chaubey. There were going to be two main leads in the movie and while until recently, it was thought to be Emraan Hashmi who’s going to play the other guy, a development took place in this matter and Ayushmann Khorana got roped in instead.
So now, Udta Punjab is going to have Shahid Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurana share the screen space for the first ever time. And that’s one really interesting combo, considering how they’re both such creative and talented actors with some nice movies in their career record.
But sadly, it won’t be until the middle of 2015 that Udta Punjab is going to begin as Sasha’s got Shandar and Farzi in his hands at the moment, keeping him super busy!

I have become selective: Shahid Kapoor

While the likes of Arjun Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra are on hoardings, TV, and magazines selling everything from clothes, colas and cars, Shahid Kapoor has not done endorsements in a while.
The Haider actor explains why the sudden full stop, "I have become a little selective. I think I have done work for ten years. I did some right things, and some wrong things. Now it's been a very different start -- and its very weird -- because exactly ten years later it's like a round two has started, so it's a new phase in my career. I am very happy that the last two decisions that I took have gone right. I have a very good set of people around me and an amazing team that are helping me take better decisions rather than stupid actor decisions which we all tend to take. So now is the time where that period of growth has started. It's a new direction and everything is going to be afresh because I feel I am a new person today than what I was and I think that will reflect in every part in what I do. film or ad."
While most top actors are now producing films, he has stayed away from it, choosing to purely act. He explains, "I want to produce films. I want to because I am doing that as an actor, I am choosing to support and participate in films which I believe should be big. Haider was one such example which worked for me. Mausam was an example which didn't work for me but it was the same thought. It was pretty much the same. I really believe a film like this should be made and so I want to participate in it and support it, so that's something I want to do and I am doing that as an actor anyway."
Argue that producing a film is different from being part of a film just to ensure it gets made, especially when it comes to sharing the profits. He counters, "I was a 33% partner in Haider. We are all equal partners - Me and Vishal Sir and UTV - but that's also because we didn't want to burden the film with our cost. If we had burdened it with our complete fees, then it would have become too expensive a film and we would never be able to make as honest a film. Then we would have had to put two songs and people would have convinced us that 'abhi dekho aapko yeh karna padega.' As for making money...that is really something which happens eventually. I have seen that in the biggest stars in this country. They have never run after money. They have always made career decisions which are going to take them forward and money has been a byproduct of that. I can go dance at a show, I can do an endorsement, make an appearance and make money, so there are various ways to make money.'
One of the benefits of being a producer is to fudge figures. Most top actors add crores to their collections to make their films seem like bigger hits, save Salman. He laughs, "Have you seen the business Salman's films do? He doesn't have to fudge figures. Not everybody does it, but a lot of people. I have never fudged my figures even now when people have asked me to. Why do it? No point, people know, industry knows, you know. Eventually everybody gets to know it's very embarrassing."

Haider: Shahid Kapoor wants to keep the skull as memento

shahid kapoor haider vishal bhardwaj

Vishal Bhardwaj has given Shahid Kapoor some of the best roles of his career and Haider is yet another example of Shahid's exemplary acting skills. The actor has received applause for his performance and Shahid feels that Haider is one of the closest films to his heart.

So much so that the actor wants to keep the skull from the film as a memento. He has also made a request to Vishal Bhardwaj for the same.
According to a leading website, Shahid said, "Haider is a special film for me which is why I want a memento to remind me of one of my most challenging performances. And what better than the skull? It is the monologue people has long associated with Shakespeare's Hamlet. That is the scene I hope will make Haider memorable too. That is the reason I have asked Vishal sir for it."
The skull is an important prop in the film and thus holds a special place in Shahid's heart.

Why Shahid never questions his director

While some actors bring in their own inputs for a character, there are others who go with what the director has to say. Shahid Kapoor admits that he falls into the second category. The actor, whose performance in his last film was lauded by many, maintains that he likes going with the director’s vision of the character.
"I usually follow what the director has to say," he says, adding, "Once you’re on the set, you’re there as a professional, and you should do whatever is required of you. Therefore, it’s important to work with the people you connect with."

Shahid, who has worked with several directors in his over-10-year-long career, feels that questioning a director’s vision is an unnecessary thing, something he tries to avoid. "If the director says he wants to put the camera in a particular place, and the cameraman thinks otherwise, how do you choose who’s right? It’s the vision of the film-maker. I focus on understanding what the film-maker wants to say, and then I try to bring that to life," he says.

The 33-year-old also points out that while the director is considered the captain of the ship, and his call is final, inputs by the crew, if interesting, are not completely written off either. "For example, if an assistant cameraman has an input to give, he is given a chance to voice it," he says.

Falling Sick Not An Option For Shahid Kapoor

Falling Sick Not An Option For Shahid Kapoor

In what could be called a bizarre incident, Shahid Kapoor got the fright of his life when he found out that his live-in domestic help was suffering from conjunctivitis! We hear that recently, when Shahid headed home from a late night flight, he rang his doorbell around 3am only to find his house help with sore eyes! Shahid apparently panicked and asked his servant to leave the house immediately.
However, before he left, Shahid allegedly asked him what all he had touched in the house, following which he called in the watchman of his building and stripped his house of everything that his house help had touched and got it packed to be given to the laundry! From door handles to coffee mugs had to be sterilised! All this so that he didn’t contract the infection which would disrupt his shoot schedule!
