Udta Punjab: I never wanted to recommend Kareena, says Shahid Kapoor

After Shaandaar, Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for his upcoming film Udta Punjab. The film is based on the issue of drug abuse in Punjab. Earlier, it was said that Shahid was the one who recommended Kareena Kapoor Khan for Udta Punjab.

But in an interview to DNA, Shahid said, "Actually, I never wanted to recommend Kareena because I was scared thinking about how people will perceive that again. When I was narrated the film, I thought of Kareena even before Alia. The role that Kareena plays, I felt she was just perfect for the role."

Shahid also added, "But then somehow, maybe Kareena was not free and it got a bit delayed. Then somehow within that month, Kareena heard the script and said yes to the film. It kind of happened and I felt really happy when it did."

Talking about Alia, Shahid revealed that, "Initially, when Kareena didn't have time for the narration, I told Alia that woh role ki casting toh nahi ho rahi hai, tu yeh role karegi kya? She read that role and she said she really liked it."

Shahid and Alia were last seen in Vikal Bahl's Shaandaar. The film did not work that well on the box office. But Shahid feels that Udta Punjab is a 'special film'. "Udta Punjab on paper might seem dark and edgy, but once you see that film, I can assure you it's the kind of role any actor would die for. When I heard the script, I instantly agreed. There were three other characters and we were waiting for them to be cast. Nobody was saying yes to the film and we could not start. It took some time for the film to get cast," added Shahid.

It's said that the film might realease in Feburary or March next year. "The makers are eyeing an early 2016 release for Udta Punjab. It will release mostly around February-end or in March," revealed a source.

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput arrive hand-in-hand at Masaba's mehendi ceremony

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput have made sure to attend every ritual and wedding ceremony of their close friends Masaba and Madhu Mantena. The couple, who will tie the knot this weekend, celebrated their mehendi ceremony last night (November 21). Shahid and Mira arrived hand-in-hand at Masaba's mehendi ceremony.

In red kurta and churidar pants, Shahid is looking really dashing, whereas Mira too looks pretty with minimal make-up in beige outfit.
Apart from Shahid and Mira, director Vikas Bahl, choreographer Bosco Martis and Krishika Lulla also were present at Masaba's mehendi function. Madhu and Masaba are already married as per the legalities but have planned for a grand wedding, which is to be attended by their B-Town friends.Earlier, the rumours of Shahid's rift with Madhu Mantena were doing the rounds on the internet. A source close to the Haider actor had said that, "Shahid did the film for producer Madhu Mantena; Shahid and Madhu are close friends. Madhu was the only reason that Shahid overlooked the flimsy storyline in the first place. But now Shahid's feeling pretty angry about the whole debacle."

But Shahid had made a point not to get the professional issues in their personal lives. Earlier, Shahid also shared a picture of Mira with Madhu and Masaba on his Instagram account.

Shahid Kapoor to Mend Fences with Madhu Mantena by Dancing at His Sangeet?

Shahid Kapoor fell off with his Shaandaar producer Madhu Mantena when he indicated that he only did Shaandaar for Madhu's sake. Naturally, this did not go down well with the producer. 

Shahid Kapoor had big hopes from the Vikas Bahl movie Shaandaar which also starred Alia Bhatt. However, the movie tanked at the box office, much to Shahid's disappointment. A source close to Shahid then made a statement saying, "Shahid did the film for producer Madhu Mantena; Shahid and Madhu are close friends. Madhu was the only reason that Shahid overlooked the flimsy storyline in the first place. But now Shahid's feeling pretty angry about the whole debacle."

However, news now has it that Shahid is all set to mend fences with Madhu by dancing at his upcoming wedding festivities. 

Producer Madhu Mantena will be tying the knot with designer Masaba Gupta later this month. The couple are already married as per the legalities but have planned for a grand wedding, which is to be attended by the who's who of B-town.

What are Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput doing on their first Diwali?

Shahid Kapoor, who will be celebrating his first Diwali with wife Mira Rajput, is hosting an intimate get-together for his close friends and family tomorrow night at his Juhu apartment. Mira’s family from Delhi is expected to join the couple as will his mother Neelima Azim and his younger brother Ishaan, father Pankaj Kapur with wife Supriya and their two children. Shahid, who has just returned from Sri Lanka from a brief holiday with Mira on Sunday, has been calling his friends to invite them over. 

Shahid’s mother Neelima confirms, “This Diwali, like our usual ones, we will be lighting diyas, visiting each other’s homes and exchanging gifts. Diwali for us, is special family time. Shahid and Mira will come over during the day and will have a party on Diwali night which will be attended by close friends and family. Usually, we divide the parties between grown-ups and youngsters, but not this year. After some time, the grown-ups will take off and  the youngsters will be left alone.” It’s also the first year she gets to spend Diwali with her daughter-in-law. “Yes. I’ll give her a gift too. But it’s not just on Diwali. I always give something or the other to Mira.”

The proud saas is all praise for Mira. “She’s a nice down-to-earth and grounded girl who has given us a lot of love. Mira is very relaxed and natural and now a part of the family. Ishaan calls her Barbie Doll and she loves it.”

Shahid Kapoor scared of going the Ranbir Kapoor way?

Shahid Kapoor is so upset with the 'Shaandaar' debacle that he wants to play safe rather than be sorry about his film choices.

He does not want to go the Ranbir Kapoor way and end up with a string of flops. He will seek script supervisors to analyse the potential of a story before he greenlights a project.
